Most people are happy to keep to the rules of a civilised society, especially when those rules are clearly designed for their comfort and safety. There are exceptions of course, but most rules improve the world we live in and stop things happening that most people want to avoid.
But the rules sometimes differ from place to place and different countries sometimes have different rules. Those differences can be confusing.
This confusion about rules has happened because different people like to set different rules. In some cases, those who don't like certain rules work hard to get those rules changed, even though other people disagree.
The only wise, unchangeing and perfect rules are those set by God himself. We can read those rules in his book, the Bible. Keeping to those God-given rules is the foundation upon which true 'religion' and a civilised society needs to be built.
Unfortunately, as time goes by, more and more of God's rules have been changed to fit what many people want. Or too often nowadays, God's rules get completely ignored.
'Religion & Society' looks at some of the things happening in a world that is increasingly ignoring God and setting its own rules. It's happened before, and the Bible tells us how foolish it is:-
"In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes."
(Jud 17:6)
"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise."
(Pr 12:15)
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
(Pr 21:2)
A society that's becoming less civilised and more irreligious is one of the things that God said would happen before his son Jesus returns to replace man's rules with his own. When he does, the world will once again be "very good", just as it was "in the beginning".
